The Lebanese Muslim Association (LMA) recently presented an enlightening  Prophetic Health program in the leadup to Eid-al-Adha, with presentations delivered by two of our community’s most respected figures from the health industry.

Friday 9 June at Lakemba Mosque after Fajr prayer saw the widely acclaimed ‘Diet Doctor’ Moodi Dennaoui behind the microphone, delivering an insightful talk on Prophetic Health.

The internationally renowned nutrition expert reminded the audience about the Sunnah of a healthy lifestyle and diet: that is, a lifestyle which prevailed in the time of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (s) and which he strongly encouraged.

Moodi’s chat resonated deeply with those in attendance, as he shed light on the often-overlooked connection between our physical health and our devotion to Allah, emphasising how our well-being plays a crucial role in our worship as Muslims.

It was certainly a refreshing approach, bringing Islamic reminders from a health perspective.

Dr Tarek Sari is another highly credentialled health professional and proprietor of the thriving The Back Specialist health clinic at Greenacre in Sydney’s southwest.

He has a lengthy history with Lakemba Mosque and indeed recalls being involved in the delivery of information sessions at Australia’s most famous and iconic masjid as far back as 2003.

During his presentation on Friday 16 June, Dr Sari related how the well-known saying that “prevention is better than cure” absolutely rings true in Islam.

As an example, he cited how Allah provides us with some beautiful words in The Qur’an as a way to prevent us from developing Alzheimer’s Disease or Dementia in our old age.

And that is, if we take The Qur’an as a companion in this life, by memorising it or even just having it as part of our daily routine, we will not come to a stage of our lives where we will lose our mind or forget things – and that Allah will protect our mind until after death.

This is just one of the miracles and the many hidden treasures of the Holy Qur’an.

Tarek also mentioned several other examples either in The Qur’an or as messages of Divine Intervention conveyed by the Prophet (s) to assist us with our health.

The words of both Moodi Dennaoui and  Tari Sari resonated with those present as they reminded us that this Islamic guidance provided by Allah more than 1,400 years ago remains every bit as relevant in a modern-day, practical health context.

This program by the LMA – and supported by the City of Canterbury Bankstown – was specifically aimed to support the older community in their journey towards living and staying healthy, deeply rooted in the wisdom of the Prophet (peace be upon him).

Commenting on the Prophetic Health progam, LMA special project officer Raiyan Ramadhan told AMUST: “The feedback from our elders was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing their eagerness to learn more about making healthier choices in their lives.”

Let’s all prioritise our well-being as an integral part of our faith.
