Almost another Ramadan has passed, can you believe it? This month has been focused on providing educational resources with the theme of ‘Let’s Get Zakat Right’, to empower future generations with the knowledge of Zakat.

Additionally, for many years now, Zakat Master Classes have been facilitated throughout various masajid and organisations alongside having pop-up stalls in several shopping centres.
However, one thing was different this year. In partnership with El Rahman, the National Zakat Foundation hosted the families and the Palestinians who arrived in Australia post-October 7 for Iftar in Sydney and Melbourne on the 22 March.
The successful evening involved family reunions and provided the Palestinians with a sense of belonging and community. In addition, the Hearts for Palestine program has operated for the last six months.
The Hearts for Palestine program continues to ensure the Palestinians have a swift resettlement in Australia. This entails providing them with housing, groceries, clothing, financial support, medical support services and much more.
Furthermore, in January 2024, we provided you with an update that over $120,000 in Zakat had been distributed. Fast-forward three months, this number has now more than tripled. We have now funded over 359 Zakat-eligible Palestinians and have distributed over $563,930 in Zakat.
Thank you for all the generous donations and partner contributions that continue to make this possible. We still rely on your Zakat to help sustain this program. Please continue to give at https://www.nzf.org.au/pay/
Moreover, the month of the Qur’an, fasting, forgiveness and ibadat to obtain taqwa is about to have its curtains closed. InshaAllah it has been a month for you that has disciplined us all to keep us going until next year.
For some, it might be their last Ramadan, and for others, their heart might become saddened that the blessed month is about to end. In any case, may Allah accept from all of us, Ameen.
Wait! Have you forgotten something? There is still one more important thing that needs to be fulfilled before Salatul Eid! You need to pay your Zakat al-Fitr.
You might ask; What is Zakat al-Fitr? Why do we need to pay Zakat al-Fitr? Who pays Zakat al-Fitr? The word Fitr means the same as iftah, to open the fast and comes from the same root word of futoor meaning breakfast.
The responsibility of paying Zakat al-Fitr is typically carried out by the leader of the household, typically the husband. The first purpose of Zakat al-Fitr is a means of compensation for any shortcomings in one’s actions throughout Ramadan.
In addition, the other purpose is to spread love and happiness among the community, particularly those who are poor and needy.
Now, you’re all set in sha Allah! As always, jazakumAllahu khair for your support! If you or someone you know requires some help, please reach out to NZF.
All applications are diligently assessed to ensure eligibility for receiving Zakat. You can apply for help by the following link: nzf.org.au/apply/ Eid Mubarak from the National Zakat Foundation team!
