In May 2025, National Volunteer Week was celebrated across the country, with many community organisations hosting events to thank volunteers for their time and dedication.
At the Muslim Women’s Support Centre (MWSC), an organisation that has been powered by volunteers for over 37 years, the occasion was a heartfelt reminder of their invaluable contributions
Reflecting on the sentiments shared by many of the volunteers, their core motivation stems from their faith, a deep sense of belonging, and the sisterhood they experience. For them, volunteering is not just an act of kindness, it is a sincere expression of worship
The Thank You Breakfast began with a heartfelt du’a led by a long-standing community elder, a du’a especially fitting for the month of Dhul-Hijjah, as it sought goodness in this world and the next.
It set a spiritual tone for the rest of the event, where intentions were renewed and hearts were uplifted
Verses of the Quran that highlight reward for every act of goodness, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant, resonated with everyone in the room.
Core Islamic values such as Ihsan (excellence), Amanah (trust), and Adl (justice) were reaffirmed as foundational pillars of their work
Two exceptional volunteers were honoured for their dedication, giving their time to community support for over 18 years.
Their service is driven by a deep conviction of faith and a desire to uphold the legacy of Prophet Muhammad (s), whose life exemplified compassion, sacrifice, and unwavering service to others
These women have become role models for the younger generation of volunteers to look up to and emulate. These intergenerational interactions, are beautiful to witness, where respect, and wisdom are shared
In a world where materialism and individualism are often platformed, community organisations such as MWSC and many others, offer a powerful alternative, where time is given selflessly to those in need
This not only fosters a genuine sense of community, but also softens the heart and serves as an opportunity for the purification of the soul, when carried out with the intention of worship
Faith can serve as a powerful motivator for volunteerism, inspiring individuals to help others with sincerity, compassion, and purpose. It instils a sense of responsibility, humility, and a desire to seek reward far beyond the worldly one
