When your heart is healing
and you’re unravelling the
knots of pain and hurt within its chambers,
there comes a point of entanglement
that makes you realise
about those times when you
bent over backwards for others.
You knew it in your bones
because your spine didn’t lie.
And you sometimes resented those
for whom you bent over backwards.
And you became bitter at the
mention of their names.
With each slightly loosened knot
of your healing heart,
still bleeding,
you begin to pity yourself for the burden of these hurtful memories.
And your spine reminds your heart
when it makes each vertebrae pain
with every knot you untangle.
And each time that helps you
realign your back and
look up again.
With hope.
With courage.
With strength.
With faith.
With love.
With forgiveness.
And even though your spine remains
in pain from the hurt
of the weight you allowed on your
bent back,
know that it was your bent back
that became a necessary bridge
for some to keep on walking
on their journey.
Judge not their journey.
Judge not why you had to be their bridge.
The beauty of you lies in
your resilience to
stand back up again,
tall and straight,
to look up
and let go.
Those who walked on the bridge
you made with your back,
did not break you.
They walked on.
And so must you.
