I am honoured to have received two prestigious recognitions: the NT Chief Minister Youth Volunteer of the Year Award and the Awards Australia Charitable Foundation Local Legend Award.
These accolades are not just a reflection of my personal journey but a tribute to the collective efforts, sacrifices, and resilience of the Muslim ummah. They stand as symbols of what is possible when determination, faith, and community converge.
Growing up in the Northern Territory, I often sought a role model- an independent, young, strong, and educated Muslim woman who could inspire and guide me. Unfortunately, such figures were hard to find. Faced with this void, I made a decision: rather than waiting for someone to fill that role, I would strive to become the role model I longed for.

A journey rooted in community
These awards are not mine alone; they are a community achievement. Behind every milestone lies the unwavering support of my parents, whose sacrifices shaped my path; the heartfelt prayers of my grandparents; and the encouragement of a community that believed in my vision. These accolades are a culmination of shared efforts, reflecting the values of resilience, perseverance, and collective growth.
The work I have undertaken- mentoring youth, organising community initiatives, and fostering leadership among young Muslims is deeply rooted in the Islamic principles of service and responsibility.
“The best of people are those who are most beneficial to others.” This teaching has driven my commitment to uplift and inspire others, particularly young Muslims navigating the challenges of identity and leadership in the contemporary world.
Strengthening the Muslim ummah
In receiving these awards, I recognise the broader significance for the Muslim community in the Northern Territory. These achievements challenge misconceptions and amplify the contributions of Muslim women as leaders and change-makers. They highlight that strong, educated, and resilient Muslim women are integral to our society, actively shaping its future while staying true to their faith.
Darwin, a city that has nurtured my growth, holds a special place in this journey. Growing up here, I witnessed the power of multiculturalism and community, but also the unique challenges faced by minority groups. These experiences reinforced my commitment to serve as a bridge- connecting people, breaking stereotypes, and creating opportunities for others to succeed.
Inspiring the next generation
For young Muslims, especially girls, I hope these achievements serve as a reminder that they, too, can excel while remaining true to their identity. Resilience, faith, and hard work are the keys to overcoming challenges and transforming dreams into realities.
The recognition I have received is not the culmination of a journey but a stepping stone toward a larger mission: to inspire and empower the next generation of Muslim leaders. Through mentoring, community projects, and advocacy, I aim to instill confidence and ambition in young Muslims, encouraging them to embrace both their faith and their potential.
A legacy of service
I dedicate these achievements to my parents, whose tireless efforts laid the foundation for my success, to the mentors and peers who have supported me, and ultimately to Allah, whose guidance and blessings have been my source of strength.
These awards are not the end of the story- they are the beginning of greater opportunities to give back to the community that has shaped me. Darwin is my home, and I am proud to have grown up here as a Muslim woman. Let us continue to build a brighter future, one rooted in shared values and collective progress.
