The Lebanese Muslim Association (LMA) has a huge family day planned for Sunday 21 January at Gosling Park, Greenacre, in southwest Sydney.
The family day is being held in conjunction with an exciting League Tag tournament which the LMA is running in conjunction with the National Rugby League (NRL) and the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs.
League Tag is a fast paced, non-contact version of rugby league played on a half-field.
Players take the field with a tag on each hip and when a player on the defending team removes a tag from the attacking player who is in possession of the ball, this constitutes a ‘tackle’.
However, most of the traditional rugby league rules (such as kicking) form part of League Tag rules although obviously there are additional laws to this hybrid form of the original game which are specific to League Tag.
Games are played over two 10 minute halves and each side has seven players on the field and can have up to three reserves.
Two separate competitions will be held on the day, a Youth Comp for boys aged between 12-15 years (entry fee $150 per team) and a Mens’ Comp for males aged 16 and above ($200 entry fee per team).
All teams in each competition are guaranteed to play at least three games in the first round, with the top four in each competition (based on wins and points differential) to qualify for the Semi-finals.
The Semifinal winners qualify for the $500 to-the-winner Finals.
All team entry fees will be donated to the Bulldogs Foundation.
The LMA’s Salim Allouche is one of the driving forces behind the big event, and told AMUST that the day is “coming together very nicely”.
“We have received numerous entries already for both the Youth and the Mens’ competitions but some slots for more teams are still available.”
