In a statement released on Saturday 25 November, Councillor Khodr Saleh OAM reiterated Canterbury Bankstown Council’s unwavering commitment to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian community. Addressing concerns about the continued presence of the Palestinian flag in the region amid talks of a temporary truce in Gaza, Saleh clarified that the flag will remain flying until a genuine and permanent ceasefire is declared.

Commending the Council for its proactive stance amid the ongoing crisis, Saleh highlighted the significance of their resolution to raise the Palestinian flag. He stated, “I commend our council for being the first and only council in Australia to adopt a resolution to raise the Palestinian flag in solidarity with the Palestinian community until a permanent ceasefire is established and formally declared in Gaza.”
