Othman Bin Affan Mosque in Cabramatta welcomed back the high profile and always engaging Islamic speaker Mohamed Hoblos for a special youth night on Saturday 17 May attended by over 200 mainly young people from South West Sydney.

while the attendance figure was a far cry from the 800-plus who welcomed Br Hoblos at his previous visit to OBA Masjid in mid-2023, the smaller gathering gave the event a very warm and intimate atmosphere.

Brother Hoblos delivered a 90-minute chat centred on the topic: “Where does our Deen come from?”

His talk addressed the importance of grounding youth identity in Islamic values, encouraging personal responsibility and maintaining ones’ connection to family as well as faith.

Among the key points he raised were:

– Islam is always the answer;
– Love for your brother what you love for yourself;
– Nobody will love you more than your father and always seek his advice.

When it comes to addressing the community, Mohamed Hoblos never disappoints and regardless of the demographics of his audience, the content and delivery of the lecture remains consistent with his style: straight to the point, practical and rooted in Islamic teachings, be they directly from what Allah says the Qur’an, or messages from our beloved prophet Muhammad (s).

In this case, the young audience was transfixed for the duration of the talk – you could have heard a pin drop.

Cabramatta Mosque president Salim Allouche was elated at the night’s success, telling AMUST: “Brother Mohamed Hoblos’s presence tonight was a blessing.”

“His words resonated deeply with our youth, stressing the importance of steadfastness to the Deen and love and respect for our parents.”

“We are again delighted to have Br Hoblos with us at OBA Mosque and he is so generous with his time, which we really do appreciate.”

As is always the case at Cabramatta Mosque, the entire evening ran smoothly, thanks to the efforts of the mosque committee and the masjid’s wonderful young volunteers…..it truly was a night to remember.

  • Mohamed Hoblos will be the guest speaker at an upcoming youth night at the Lebanese Muslim Association’s iconic Lakemba Mosque on Friday, 20 June with full particulars available on the LMA’s socials as the event draws closer.
