“One-dimensional thought is systematically promoted by the makers of politics and the purveyors of mass information. Their universe of discourse is populated by self-validating hypothesis which increasingly and monopolistically respected (and) become hypnotic definitions of dictations.” (Herbert Marcuse)

“If I were to remain silent, I’d be guilty of complicity.” (Albert Einstein)

Israeli genocide in Gaza backed by the most pro-Israeli US President in history, Joe Biden, and his Western allies has reached a point of no return. Netanyahu has to continue with his indiscriminate killings to reduce the number of Palestinians, repopulate Gaza with Zionists and realise the dream of Eretz Israel.

To him and his far-right coalition it is a war for political survival.  Similarly, Biden has no choice but to go on supporting the genocide so that he could get reelected. In the interest of earning profit the corporate media too would keep on sanitizing Netanyahu’s inhumanity and demonize Palestinian bravery.

But there is one hidden truth behind this calculated macabre tragedy and that is now coming out in the open via the Gaza propelled campus rumpus.

It was in 1961 that President Eisenhower in his farewell address warned American legislators of the rising power and influence of the US Military Industrial Complex (MIC).  Today that MIC has added another wing to its power and influence through the universities.

In the 1960s, universities all over the world became the epicentre of protests against US war in Vietnam. Remember the lyric “Hey Hey LBJ, how many children you killed today?”. That was one among hundreds that kept alive the momentum of protest then.

Today, the slogans “Disclose”, “Divest” and “We will not stop and we will not rest” are dominating student placards in US universities. Similar ones are appearing in Australia too.

Capitalism with its killing industry welcomes battle fields and the global bazaar for weapons do not discriminate among purchasers. What matters is profit. It is this industry that dominates the economies of the New World Order, and universities are part of it.

Joe Biden spoke candidly the other day about how US armaments are exported to Ukraine and Israel.

University science laboratories in US, UK, EU and Australia do engage in weaponry research and they invest in those industries. Therefore, university protests against the War in Gaza are partly a protest against military capitalism.

The Albanese Government’s latest budget while focusing on the rising cost of living and inflation is failing to address the fundamental problem of misallocation of resources in the economy. This is a universal issue bedeviling all major economies.

If bulk of the resources are devoted to produce weapons to kill humanity directly or indirectly what is left to produce goods and services to make human life happy and comfortable?

Finally, Senator Fatima Payman deserves praise for breaking ranks with the Labour Party when she spoke truth in front of power and called the Gaza war a genocide.
