The Australian Catholic University (ACU) hosted its ninth annual Federal Parliamentary Interfaith Breakfast at Parliament House, Canberra on Monday 25 November 2025 gathering of nearly 250 parliamentarians, faith leaders and community figures.

The event, co-hosted by the Hon Milton Dick MP (Speaker of the House of Representatives), featured veteran journalist Geraldine Doogue AO as keynote speaker.

Doogue described friendship as the “secret sauce” for inter-religious unity, quoting a prominent Christian-Muslim dialogue leader to illustrate how personal connection and shared humanity can bridge divides.

Opening prayers were led by Sr Giovanni Farquer RSJ, Director of the Archdiocese of Sydney’s Commission for Ecumenism and Inter-Religious Relations.

Muslims at the event were represented by Mr Kazi Ali OAM and Mrs Ali driving all the way from Sydney who used the opportunity to network with politicians and interfaith leaders at the event.

The breakfast brought together a rich variety of religious traditions — reflecting Australia’s cultural and spiritual diversity — reaffirming faith’s role in civic life and community cohesion.

In welcoming guests, ACU Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Zlatko Skrbis said the breakfast has become a cornerstone of the university’s commitment to open dialogue, respect and the common good.

“This event stands as a testament to the foundation of trust, dignity and love that underpins our democracy,” he said.

As Australia and the world navigate global conflicts and social tensions, the 2025 breakfast highlighted the enduring power of faith, friendship and respectful conversation in building a more harmonious society.
