Khaled Sabsabi is a multiple award-winning visual artist who has led a fascinating life.
After fleeing Lebanon in the late 1970s with his family after they were displaced by the civil war, Khaled grew up in southwest Sydney.
Over the past three decades, the proud Muslim has worked as a community cultural practitioner and educator, in addition to his visual arts roles.
Currently, Khaled is the driving force behind the Powerhouse Parramatta Museum’s exciting ‘Moments In Waiting’ Project, where he will be visiting the homes of members of the Muslim community across Greater Sydney and filming interviews with them about sacred artifacts and other items they have in their possession that have been handed down to them over time….many centuries, in some instances.
On Saturday, May 27 at 11.00 am at the Campbelltown Arts Centre, Powerhouse Parramatta’s director Lisa Havilah will be launching Khaled’s book, titled: “Khaled Sabsabi – A Collection of Essays on the Artist and his work.”
AMUST readers are cordially invited to attend the launch, which will include morning tea, and Khaled will be signing copies of the book as well as conversing with prominent curators Stephanie Berlangleri (Carriageworks), Matt Cox (Art Gallery of NSW) and Adam Porter (Campbellown Arts Centre) about the importance of his work.
If you are unable to attend the launch, but would like to purchase the book, please email Bandicoot Publishing’s consignment co-ordinator: adean@bandicootp.com.au
