The Fiji Muslim Youth Movement (FMYM) International successfully hosted its three-day New South Wales Reunion, bringing together former members from across Australia, with representatives also attending from New Zealand and Fiji.

The reunion was held at the Greenfield Community Centre in Greenfield, from 4 to 6 October, marking a significant milestone in bringing together former members of the movement under one platform.

ECS International Security & Investigations, the Muslim League of NSW, and Waniya & Associates generously supported and sponsored the event.

The program received excellent media coverage from Muslim Community Radio 2MFM, which highlighted the event’s key moments and messages.

Adding a memorable touch to the opening ceremony, the 5th Bankstown ICPA Scout Group delivered an impressive performance, providing a band display and a guard of honour to welcome the Chief Guest.

The event was officially opened by the Chief Guest, Mayor of Liverpool, Mr Ned Mannoun, who commended the diversity, enthusiasm, and unity of participants who had travelled from across Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji to reconnect and contribute to their close-knit community.

In his address, the Mayor praised the vision and purpose of FMYM International and extended his support by offering the use of his council chambers for any future events the organisation may wish to host — including the centenary celebration of the Fiji Muslim League.

The opening session featured an impressive lineup of speakers, including Mr Aziz Akbar, Chairman of FMYM International and event organiser; Mr Zia Ahmad, Editor-in-Chief of the Australian Muslim Times (AMUST); Br Nisar Ahmed Ali, Vice President of the Fiji Muslim League; Br Nazeel Khan, Chairman of the Shura Council of the Muslim League of NSW; and Br Mohammed Azim from Melbourne, who served as the master of ceremonies.

Formed in February 2024, FMYM International has quickly mobilised a global network of former Fiji Muslim Youth Movement members from Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and Fiji.

The organisation continues to work closely with FMYM in Fiji to provide mentorship, guidance, leadership training and support for Muslim youth development initiatives.

FMYM International’s vision is to build a global support network that collaborates closely with the Fiji Muslim Youth Movement (FMYM) and the Fiji Muslim League (FML).

Its mission is to empower every Muslim youth in Fiji by providing the resources, guidance, and opportunities necessary for holistic personal, social, and spiritual growth.

The three-day reunion featured a dynamic program that included lecture sessions, discussion forums, and country reports presented by representatives from New Zealand and Fiji. Participants also engaged in sessions on youth development, plans of action and recommendations for FMYM International, and interactive discussions with reverts who shared their personal journeys to Islam.

As part of the event itinerary, attendees also visited Green Valley Masjid and Minarah College Campus, further strengthening community connections and fostering a shared sense of purpose among participants.

It was gratifying to note the presence of the Fiji Muslim League (FML)—the parent body of the Fiji Muslim Youth Movement (FMYM)—demonstrating its continued support and partnership with FMYM International.

In addition, FMYM International sponsored a member from the Fiji branch to attend and participate in the program, further strengthening ties between the local and international teams.

Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive. Every attendee expressed appreciation for the program’s organisation, the unity rekindled among former members, and the strong support shown by the NSW community.

Many highlighted the event as a memorable and inspiring experience, and all eagerly look forward to the next reunion, coinciding with FMYM International’s second anniversary in 2026.
