National Mosque Open Day (NMOD) held on Saturday 25 October 2025 invited Australians of all religious denominations to step inside their local masjid under the theme “Open Mosques, Open Hearts,” celebrating welcome, transparency and connection nationwide.

Participating venues this year included Lakemba Mosque, Cabramatta Mosque, Young Mosque, Parramatta Mosque, Quakers Hill Mosque, Mareeba Mosque, Hobart Mosque and Palmerston Mosque.

Inaugurated by the Lebanese Muslim Association (LMA) in 2014, NMOD is traditionally held on the last Saturday of October and again this year, it provided a practical platform for interfaith engagement and meaningful conversation.

Lakemba Mosque drew around 200 attendees, with local families enjoying a barbecue lunch and and as always, there were rides and other activities to keep the children entertained.

Families who visited the iconic masjid enjoyed an exhilarating day filled with conversation and connection, whilst a massive highlight was OnePath Network’s enlightening Makkah virtual tour, for which the the queue seemed almost never-ending.

This fascinating interactive element added a modern dimension to NMOD’s traditional hospitality.

Young Mosque’s hard-working team of volunteers are an integral part of NMOD each and every year.

From Quakers Hill and Parramatta to regular NMOD participant Hobart  and regional Mareeba and Palmerston, steady turnouts underscored the breadth and diversity of Australia’s Muslim communities.

As LMA Religious Affairs Administrator Salim Allouche commented: “Opening the doors of our mosques to members of the community, both Muslim and non-Muslim, really does open everyone’s hearts.”

Sheikh Mohammad Trad discussing the LMA’s Al-Azhar College with visitors to his stand at Lakemba Mosque’s NMOD.

“When people step inside, barriers fall away and true connection begins.”

While mosques welcome visitors year-round, NMOD amplifies the invitation on a national scale – turning curiosity into conversation and neighbours into friends.

As has been the case for a number of years, AMUST was once again the proud Media Partner for NMOD 2025.

Quakers Hill Mosque also reported a very successful Day.

NMOD 2025 was the last on which much-loved Imam, Sheikh Emad Hamdy fielded questions in the current Young Mosque, with the superb new masjid at the same location having almost reached completion.
