As of September 2025, the National Zakat Foundation (NZF) has supported 1,515 individuals from Gaza through its Gaza Assistance Program, distributing over $5.1 million in Zakat and Sadaqah.

What began as a program budgeted for 860 visas quickly expanded when 2,300 people were granted safety in Australia. Alhamdulillah, NZF was able to rise to the challenge, directly assisting 1,515 of those who have arrived since November 2023.

How they are settling in

Through our initial seven- month Gaza Assistance program families received consistent financial support to cover essential living costs.

This has given many the stability they needed to settle, enrol their children in schools, begin English lessons, and in some cases, secure their first jobs.

Of course, challenges remain. Securing housing without rental history and finding stable work continue to be hurdles for some.

What’s next

We know that financial assistance alone isn’t enough. To ensure long-term independence, NZF is launching the Gaza Intervention for Integration (GIFI) program, which focuses on:

  1. Communication & Personal Skills Training
  2. Job Readiness and Skills Development
  3. Family & Community Integration Programs

Through these initiatives, we aim to empower our brothers and sisters from Gaza to not only become self-sufficient, but also Muslims who can contribute to society, inshaAllah.

Why your support is still needed

Even as families begin to rebuild, the rising cost of living in Australia means many still struggle to cover rent, bills, and food.

On average, each individual requires around $1,000 per month to meet basic needs. While some receive Centrelink payments, it is not enough to establish a stable new life.

That’s why your Zakat and Sadaqah are still vital. With your continued generosity, we can ensure that families don’t just survive, but thrive, by gaining the skills, opportunities, and hope they need to stand on their own two feet.
