The Ethnic Communities’ Council of NSW (ECCNSW) proudly celebrated its 50th anniversary in Sydney with a Gala Dinner on Thursday 22 May 2025 at Le Montage, Lilyfield.
The event was an astounding success, bringing together a vibrant cross-section of community leaders, public figures, artists, distinguished guests, government representatives and volunteers for a night of reflection, recognition, and unity, in the presence of its Patron, Her Excellency Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of New South Wales.
The milestone event paid tribute to ECCNSW’s five decades of promoting diversity, social harmony, and inclusive representation across NSW.
The Honorable Margaret Beazley during her keynote address, commended ECCNSW for its unwavering commitment to cultural inclusion and unity, praising its role as a leading voice for multicultural communities throughout the state.
Notably, Mr Abbas Raza Alvi, President of the Indian Crescent Society of Australia (ICSOA), and Mr Siddique Panwala, Legal Advisor of ICSOA, were recognised for their dedicated service, leadership within ECCNSW and presented with ECCNSW Ambassador Award for exceptional contribution to multiculturalism by the Governor.
Mr Indrajit Khuman was also honoured for his outstanding role in promoting cultural engagement and cross-community dialogue.
The entire Executive Team of the Indian Crescent Society of Australia (ICSOA) proudly participated in the ECCNSW 50th Anniversary Gala Dinner, joining community leaders and dignitaries in celebrating this significant milestone and reaffirming their ongoing commitment to multicultural engagement and community harmony.
ECCNSW Chair Peter Doukas OAM, CEO Mary Karras, and fellow board members including Vice Chair Fiona Mouhtaris, Treasurer Emanuel Valageorgiou, Secretary Glen Falkenstein, and Youth Chair Joshua Moses were acknowledged for their continued leadership and tireless advocacy in supporting multicultural communities across the state.
The celebration featured a rich array of cultural performances that showcased the diversity of NSW’s communities, highlighting the unifying power of music, dance, and tradition.
As ECCNSW looks to the future, this 50th anniversary stands as both a celebration and a renewed call to action—to continue building a more inclusive, respectful, and united New South Wales for generations to come.
