As the 2025 academic year begins to take shape, Saturday 12 April, saw a highly successful Information Day held in Lakemba for potential students of Al-Azhar College, Australia.
The well-attended session gave interested parties the chance to meet some of the College’s esteemed lecturers, ask questions and gain clarity on which program best suits their interests and goals.
Many attendees have already enrolled, and officials report continued interest from dozens of other community members.

An accomplished scholar from Egypt who studied at Cairo’s world famous Al-Azhar University himself, Sheikh Mohamad Abdelzaher has been an integral part of the Al-Azhar College Australia team since its commencement in 2023.
Now entering its third year, Al-Azhar College (which is chaired by eminent Islamic scholar Sheikh Yahya Safi, the head imam of Lakemba Mosque) offers a rare pathway to Islamic scholarship within Australia.
Accredited by the prestigious Azhar College in Lebanon, the Lakemba faculty provides a structured learning environment where students can engage deeply with the Islamic sciences, Arabic and Qur’an studies.
The campus is based in a refurbished section of LMA’s complex in Lakemba and accommodates both full-time and part-time students, offering in-person and online learning across three days each week (Saturday, Monday and Wednesday).
The programs are designed to fit around busy lives, while maintaining academic depth and spiritual benefit.
LMA Religious Affairs Administrator Salim Allouche says the continued growth of the College is a very pleasing sign.
“It’s great to see our community investing in their Islamic knowledge.”
“This program gives students the chance to study in a serious and supportive environment that’s rooted in tradition,” he told AMUST.

Sheikh Mohammad Trad addresses potential Al-Azhar College students.
Whether students are beginning their journey or looking to advance their studies, the College’s experienced faculty delivers an engaging curriculum designed to be relevant, authentic and accessible.
Al-Azhar College Australia is a centre of knowledge and transformation and whether you are looking to deepen your understanding of the Qur’an, Arabic or Shariah, it offers a dedicated path for you:
- SHARIAH COLLEGE: A tailored, interwoven curriculum, which is true to tradition, applying this sacred knowledge in the modern world and with qualified and experienced teachers.
