Your happiness is your responsibility. It is unfair to delegate this vital aspect of your life to someone else.

The following strategies are suggestions for you to implement in your life so that everyday your life feels free from the burden of anger, grudge, or resentment.

1. Identify your self-limiting beliefs and challenge yourself to rise above those beliefs through self-empowering actions. For example, let’s say that one of your self-limiting beliefs is: I don’t need a day off to spend time alone because that is selfish of me, I can’t put myself first. My family needs me.

A self-empowering action would be to schedule a couple of hours each day to acknowledge that you too are one of Allah’s creations and that it is an act of kindness and love to take care of all of Allah’s creations, including yourself. Those couple of hours daily could be your time to yourself where you can do something nice for yourself – something that gives you joy and helps you feel relaxed and calm.

2. Let go of control over others and control over outcomes. Control over others seeks certainty in outcomes. When you start seeking certainty, you begin feeding your ego. Ego is sinful. Relinquish your ego and embrace uncertainty by believing in the al-Ghaib. When you feel the need for certainty, say to Allah:

Ya ALLAH, thank you for giving me the patience to bear in this moment what I can not understand or see reason in. I submit fully to your plans.

3. Let go of worrying about the future and stop anticipating unpleasant outcomes for your life. The way to expect only good from people and situations is to express gratitude to Allah for things that you hope to achieve and haven’t yet achieved, but do so in present tense as though the outcome is happening now in your life.

For example, if you are need of financial improvement, say to Allah: Thank you, Allah, for my financial abundance.

When you express gratitude in this manner, you are letting go of the fear of lack, and surrendering to all the abundance you are already blessed with.

4. Declutter your home and allow more natural light to flow into your home. This will improve the flow of energy in your life. Declutter one room at a time, one cupboard at a time, one shelf at a time, one draw at a time. Find a charity you can give these items to.

5. Let go of or minimise time with people who are always complaining. When you listen to complaints too often, your subconscious mind absorbs them and soon you begin to speak in the same manner. If in the company of someone who complains alot, either change the topic or console them by beginning your sentence with “Alhamdolillah, we are Muslims and Allah has blessed us with the Quran and Sunnah to find all answers.” If they persist, excuse yourself to do other things.
