The Australian Islamic Medical Association (AIMA) warmly invites Muslim healthcare professionals, workers and students across Australia to the AIMA National Conference 2025.

As Australia’s largest Islamic healthcare conference, this highly anticipated event will take place on Saturday 19 April to Sunday 20 April 2025 (Easter Weekend), at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre in Victoria, Australia.

Energising and Synergising Muslim Leadership:

Renowned international speakers Dr Musa Mohd Nordin and Ambassador Ebrahim Rasool will lead this session in a panel discussion, focusing on key leadership principles that inspire and empower both current and future leaders. The discussion will highlight the importance of engagement, interaction, and partnerships to amplify the impact of great leaders.

Ambassador Rasool, a former South African Ambassador to the USA, comrade of Nelson Mandela, and founder of the World for All Foundation, will share his extensive experience. Presenting groundbreaking research on Islamophobia in healthcare:

In a significant first, AIMA will present findings from a groundbreaking study titled “Islamophobia: The Experience of Muslim and Non-Muslim Healthcare Professionals in Australia.” This pivotal research aims to shed light on the challenges faced by healthcare professionals and foster dialogue on creating inclusive and supportive workplaces.

Islamic Bioethics of Seeking Treatment and End-of-Life Care:

Dr Aasim I Padela, a professor of emergency medicine, bioethics, and medical humanities at the Medical College of Wisconsin, will present an online session exploring Islamic perspectives on healthcare. He will offer a theologically grounded framework for navigating complex medical decisions, incorporating the concept of accountability before God (taklıf) to guide Muslim patients in setting goals of care and assessing quality of life.

The Myth of Normal in a toxic culture:

Dr Gabor Maté, a globally recognised speaker and author, will contribute his expertise to the conference. Dr Matés work on topics such as addiction, trauma, and mind-body health is widely celebrated, with further details about his session to be announced closer to the event.

Islamic Innovation and the Future of Health Technology:

Professor Shafi Ahmed will guide delegates through an understanding of the history of Islamic innovation in healthcare and an appreciation for the future of technology in healthcare.

This online session will showcase his global perspective as a 3x TEDx speaker and educator at institutions like Harvard Medical School and Singularity University.

Tailored Sessions for Professional Growth:

The program also includes targeted sessions for nurses and dentists, wellbeing and nutrition discussions, health tech startup pitches, and media training in collaboration with OnePath Network.
