The 8th General Assembly of the Australian National Imams Council was held from Friday,14 November to Sunday 16 November in Sydney under the auspices of the Council of Imams, New South Wales.

The AGM was convened in conjunction with a national Islamic Conference that lasted three days.

The AGM was attended by the chairmen and members of the Councils of Imams representing the states of New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia.

During the session, the Australian National Imams Council unanimously decided to renew the term of Dr Ibrahim Abu Mohamed as the Grand Mufti of Australia for an additional three years starting from the date of the AGM.

In addition, the Australian National Imams Council commended, Dr Ibrahim Abu Mohamed for his outstanding performance and many achievements during his first term.

The Imams invoked Allah, the Most Merciful, to bestow upon the Grand Mufti his divine support, guidance and blessings and they expect from the Mufti greater success and great accomplishments.

The General Assembly of the Australian National Imams Council discussed and studied numerous topics and affairs that concern the Muslims at home and abroad.

Dr. Sheikh Abdel-Aziem Afifi, President of the Australian National Imams Council thanked all the imams who attended and participated in the AGM and the conference for their invaluable opinions and fruitful contributions that benefit all Australians in general and Muslim Australians in particular.
