I found most men think they are in control, and they hesitate to see a doctor and the hospital is the last option for them. Therefore, for many people the hospital is a place they dislike being but when there is no other option, then they embrace the hospital for recovery of their health.
A nurse asked me yesterday how I felt about my recent hospitalisation. My answer was, “Fear and hope.” He asked me to explain. Interestingly, my fear is not about big issues. It is about needles for blood, intravenous line and how much I miss my work.
I always pray to Allah for the ability to contribute through good activities. My daughter would see me as a workaholic despite my paraplegia since 1998 and my life is wheelchair bound.
But the hope part about the hospital is that inshallah I will be looked after well to get better. Hospital has highly skilled professionals to take care of the patients. Therefore, hospital is a blessing from Allah for us humans.
Our life is a combination of good health and sickness. Allah made our life this way to test us, to forgive our sins, and to grant us higher status through sickness. But to receive Allah’s Mercy and forgiveness, we must practice patience.
What is patience in simple words? Patience is accepting Allah’s decree (Qadr) happily without complaint, hoping for Allah’s mercy in sickness, believing that the decision for cure comes from Allah, making more dua to Allah, and using all the hospital facilities with constant thanks to Allah.
The good thing for the believing Muslims is that when they are sick, they increase their prayers, dua and charity. By doing this they reach close to Allah’s Mercy.
What a beautiful outcome!
