AMU Alumni of Australia elects new Executive Council

The AMU Alumni of Australia (AMUAA) successfully held its 32nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Sydney on Sunday 26 July 2026, at the Reg Byrne Community Centre, Wentworthville, NSW.

Members from across the community gathered to review the organisation’s achievements over the past two years and elect a new Executive Council to lead AMUAA through the 2026–2028 term.

As a registered charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) and NSW Fair Trading, AMUAA reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and good governance by conducting democratic elections in accordance with its constitution—a tradition the organisation has proudly upheld every two years.

The meeting was presided over by Dr Mohammed Anas Nadwi, who oversaw the election process and declared the newly elected Executive Council.

Significant impact through education

Annual reports presented by the outgoing office bearers—Mr Riyaz Akhtar (President), Mr Arif Ahmed Qureshi (Secretary), Mr Rehan Jamal (Treasurer) and Mr Zameer Khan (Scholarship Coordinator)—highlighted another successful term marked by substantial growth in educational and community initiatives.

Key achievements included:

More than 850 students from marginalised communities receiving educational scholarships across multiple institutions in India.
Expansion of AMUAA’s scholarship initiative, with an increased number of educational initiatives and beneficiary institutions over the past two years.
A total of $94,536.34 disbursed towards scholarships, educational infrastructure and community welfare projects in both India and Australia.

These accomplishments reflect the continued generosity of AMUAA members, donors and volunteers, whose collective support has enabled the organization to expand its impact year after year.
