Multicultural Mailer Inc, in partnership with Queensland Training and Employment Services (QTES), hosted the “Breaking Into IT: Empowering Multicultural Communities for Tech Careers in Australia” workshop on Saturday 28 June 2025 in Hillcrest, Queensland.
The event aimed to bridge gaps for culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities, helping them access valuable skills and opportunities in the growing tech sector.
The workshop attracted participants eager to build careers in IT focussing on overcoming common hurdles faced by multicultural job seekers, including crafting tailored resumes, understanding job ads, building professional networks, and effectively using tools like LinkedIn, GitHub, and AI technologies such as ChatGPT.

The workshop featured two sessions:
-
Challenges for Multicultural IT Job Seekers: This session addressed key challenges like generic resumes, cultural communication gaps, and understanding job advertisements.
-
Live Demo – Build a Job-Ready Resume with ChatGPT: Participants gained hands-on experience using AI tools to write impactful resumes, highlight key skills, and tailor resumes to job ads, improving their chances in a competitive job market.

The IT workshop forms part of a larger effort to break down barriers to employment for CALD individuals, addressing issues like racial discrimination and social isolation.
Studies show that recent migrants experience higher unemployment rates than Australian-born individuals, and a significant number of CALD individuals face challenges in workforce integration. By offering digital literacy and job readiness training, the workshop helps tackle unemployment and boost economic participation.
This initiative highlights the importance of inclusive, culturally tailored programs that enhance employability and integration for CALD communities. By equipping individuals with digital skills, Multicultural Mailer Inc is preparing them to thrive in Australia’s evolving job market, while contributing to a more diverse and inclusive workforce.
The workshop not only provided technical skills but also fostered hope and empowerment, inspiring participants to pursue IT careers with confidence and purpose.

Creating hope and opportunity for all
The “Breaking Into IT” Workshop provided more than just technical skills—it offered hope, direction, and a sense of belonging to those who are often underrepresented in Australia’s tech workforce.
Many participants left the event feeling empowered, equipped with new skills, and most importantly, motivated to pursue their careers with a renewed sense of purpose.
By focusing on practical tools and overcoming the unique barriers faced by multicultural communities, the workshop laid the groundwork for a new generation of job-ready tech professionals.
It is these tangible outcomes that underscore the importance of such initiatives in helping build a more inclusive, skilled, and diverse workforce in Australia.
