This month July has been one of the most exciting months for ACDP. We have had the great pleasure and honor of hosting a Future Guardians Program to the Year 9s, 10s, and 11s at the Australian International Islamic College Qld, Brisbane.

Some key points from this program are listed below:

First the benefits of the public sector are many, especially when comparing it to the private sector viz.

  • Provides the opportunity to work on projects that benefit the community and society at large, such as healthcare, education, public safety etc.
  • Government jobs pay on average $1600 per week compared to the private sector which pay $1200 per week on average.
  • Formal training to support your individual career goals
  • Flexible hours, part-time, home based working conditions
  • We also discussed the breakdown of the different government levels and each of their branches.

There are 3 levels of government:

  • Federal,
  • State
  • Local
  • Each of these levels have branches; legislative, executive, and judiciary branch. Then each branch has departments that span across all forms of government roles and duties.

The key highlight from this part of the course is that we have the opportunity to work in any department across any branch or level, regardless of our profession. This gives us the ability to become key decision makers and bring about positive change for the sake of our community and Australia at large.

The response from the students and the school administration has been tremendous. ACDP aims to introduce the “Future Guardians Program” in other schools moving forward.
