Mum: Yallah, kids we’re going to be late!
Son: Mum, I can’t find my shoes.
Mum: Get in the car, hurry up!
Daughter: Mum, tell him to move, I need to brush my teeth.
Mum: Yallah, kids let’s go!!!
Before you know it, these are some of the expressions that will be passionately vociferated after the seemingly endless summer break has come to an end. As the fourth term swiftly comes to a conclusion for another year, the NZF Back 2 School program becomes awakened. In this month’s article, we’re going to identify the importance of the Back 2 School program and how this unique program supports Zakat-eligible parents to send their little ones to school.
NZF has taken the initiative since 2014 by establishing a grassroots program that assists Zakat-eligible parents. This is implemented by reducing some of the burden incumbent upon parents to ensure their child/ren receives a quality education. The significance of this at a broader level, as a minority community, it’s necessary to take the load off our shoulders and assist our fellow parents when the going gets tough. The Prophet (SAWS) said;
“Whoever relieves a Muslim of some worldly distress, Allah will relieve him of some of the distress of the Day of Resurrection”.
In addition, this is now more than ever important and has been significantly exacerbated as a result of the cost-of-living crisis. At NZF, we see first-hand the blessed hardships some families are experiencing at the moment. Whether that be trying to pay the rent, groceries, fuel or needing to buy another pair of outgrown shoes, it’s simply a lot! This demonstrates the importance of this program and how it can really make a big difference. You may not know it and you may not see it firsthand, but alleviating some of the financial pressure goes a long way. Without the generous donors, this would not be feasible.
To wrap things up, we have to remember all children are deserving of an education. As mentioned earlier, as a minority Muslim community in Australia, we can’t forget about those families who are doing it tough to send their kid/s to school. The question then beckons; Who and when will we help these families? Or are they simply going to be left in the dark and forgotten about? This is where the NZF initiative has stepped in and taken on the communal obligation to serve those in need with the permission of Allah (SWT) to become independently sustainable and self-sufficient as a broader community.
If you need help or know someone looking for assistance with getting their little or even their big munchkin to school, please contact NZF. Please note that all applications for Zakat are carefully assessed to ensure eligibility for obtaining Zakat.
