To the world, #BeirutBlast is just a story. As time passes, attention shifts to Belarus, Trump, Covid19 etc. This is the usual cycle of news.
But Lebanon can’t move on. There is this sense of collective grief for what happened in #Beirut. A funeral which doesn’t seem to end. 💔

The Port that was destroyed in the #BeirutBlast was a main point in distributing food to the country. The wheat silos were destroyed. This is horrific for a country already going through an economic crisis, with many unable to afford food.

#EliasKhoury, 15-years old, passed away yesterday from wounds sustained in the #BeirutBlast.
Today… his young classmates are carrying his coffin. Heartbreaking and makes my blood boil.

Incompetence kills.
Lebanese Prime Minister says #Beirut explosions caused by an estimated 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate left unsecured for 6 years in a warehouse. 6 years! 6 years! #BeirutBlast @akhbar

Between the Beirut blast and the U.S. coronavirus disaster I can’t stop thinking and how gross negligence and corruption at the highest levels are leading to people unnecessarily dying.
the scale of the disregard for human life is staggering

It’s the first day at work after the Beirut Blast. I met a friend who said I feel guilty if I keep my kids here. The 2nd said: my daughter’s friend has been in a coma and the 3rd told me about the wife of a friend who was injured multiple times in her head & brain. كيف ممكن تقطع؟

Watching the world go by from #Beirut is so painful, everything I own is a remnant of a forgotten past. Nothing will ever be the same after 4 August, 2020. We will never be the same, it is a mourning that is insurmountable. My only healing is justice to the criminals #Beirutblast
