A leading American Islamic scholar, Omar Suleiman, summarised the situation in Gaza:
“This time, the Nakba is being televised, and it has a stench of finality to it. What is happening in Palestine can no longer be described as genocide or even ethnic cleansing. It is beyond mass extermination – it is total erasure.”

With an extremist corporate media, a cowardly political class, a racist refugee policy, total subservience to “our great and powerful ally” and constant repetition of hasbara defending Israeli atrocities, a large and growing section of the community, not just the Muslim community, is looking beyond the two old parties towards greater emphasis on progressive independents and Greens.

Rapid exposure of Israeli propaganda, the broadcasting by independent media of double standards in policing terrorism, open attacks by community and independent bodies on attempts to silence dissent, is bringing about social renewal.

No longer will the electorate be satisfied with surface level adherence to the notion of multiculturalism while our parliaments are dominated by the Anglo-Saxon elite.

Haaretz published the stunning ICJ findings on the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory.
• Israel must end its presence in the occupied territories as soon as possible.
• Israel should immediately cease settlement expansion and evacuate all settlers from the occupied areas.
• Israel is required to make reparations for the damage caused to the local and lawful population in the Palestinian territories.
• The international community and organizations have a duty not to recognize the Israeli presence in the territories as legal and to avoid supporting its maintenance.
• The UN should consider what actions are necessary to end the Israeli presence in the territories as soon as possible. [19 July 2024 Haaretz]
