The Australian Federation of Islamic Councils (AFIC) has condemned, in the strongest possible terms, Israel’s latest military assault on Iran. This attack, which has resulted in the deaths of civilians and high-level Iranian personnel, represents a reckless and unlawful act of aggression with the potential to drag the entire region into open war.
This is not an isolated incident. It is part of a broader campaign of militarised impunity that includes:
- The ongoing genocide in Gaza, now in its 19th month, where tens of thousands of civilians have been killed and where famine, disease, and displacement are rampant;
- The escalating violence in the occupied West Bank, where settler attacks and military raids have intensified;
- Airstrikes in Lebanon and repeated bombings in Syria, each pushing the region closer to collapse.
These actions are not defensive. They are calculated efforts to assert regional dominance through terror and bloodshed. Conduct that would never be tolerated from any other nation
“This is not just about Gaza. This is not just about Iran. This is about a state that acts with complete impunity while the Western world looks the other way,”
“Israel is dragging the Middle East into catastrophe, and unless the international community intervenes, the consequences will be devastating for the entire world. We call on the Australian Government to stand up, speak out, and act.”
AFIC calls on the Australian Government to:
- Condemn Israel’s illegal strike on Iran and all acts of unprovoked military aggression;
- Call for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, and Syria;
- Support and enforce international accountability mechanisms, including the ICC arrest warrants against Israeli officials;
- Investigate Australian citizens participating in war crimes or materially supporting illegal settlements;
- Suspend all military and intelligence cooperation with Israel and impose targeted sanctions on complicit entities;
- Recognise the State of Palestine and advocate for its full membership at the United Nations.
This latest assault makes it clear that there is no room for neutrality or delay. If Australia continues to issue only vague statements while refusing to act, it will not be remembered as impartial, but as complicit.
History is watching. And it will not forget who stood by while a nation burned the region to the ground.
