Money is rarely just about money. For many Muslim families in Australia and New Zealand, financial decisions are tangled up with questions of faith – is this financing halal, will this investment align with my values? For a long time, there was nowhere to ask these questions out loud, in a room full of people facing the same dilemmas. That gap is exactly why the Muslim Wealth Summit (MWS) exists.
MWS was founded on a simple belief: that our community deserves the same access to sound, financial education as anyone else, without having to choose between their faith and their financial future.
What started as a single pilot event in Sydney in January 2025 with 50 people has grown into a recurring summit series held across Australia and New Zealand. With over 1.1M Muslims in Australia and New Zealand, the need was clearly bigger than one city or one conversation.

What actually happens at MWS
Each summit brings together everyday Muslims – professionals, families, retirees, business owners – for a day of practical learning, collaborating and networking. Sessions cover halal investing, superannuation, property, business finance, professional development and community wealth-building.
The sessions are delivered by industry practitioners, Islamic finance schoalrs, community leaders and business founders. Formats include keynote presentations, masterclasses, panels and business exhibitions. Attendees leave with concrete next steps, not just inspiration.

But it’s the final theme of community wealth-building that most drives, Muslim Wealth Summit’s Founder, Dr Tanvir Uddin, of Wholesum, a leading Islamic income fund. “We define wealth beyond just individual material wealth to canvas, community and environmental wealth and wealth that transcends this world and the Hereafter”. It is his passion for connecting individuals with sound knowledge, experts, and one another that inspires Wholesum’s pursuit of hosting 5 annual conferences.
The Summit’s team goes beyond Wholesum and is supported by partners ranging from Platinum and Gold partners through to Silver, Bronze, Media and Community partners – a mix of financial institutions, halal businesses and community organisations that back the mission of accessible financial education for all.
The 2026 Summit Series is backed by leading financial institutions such as MCCA, Mecca Property Group, Granada Wealth and National Zakat Foundation.

Who’s behind it
MWS is organised by Wholesum, a Sydney-based halal investing, financing and financial empowerment business. Dr Uddin founded Wholesum after completing his PhD in Islamic finance at the University to Sydney on the conviction that financial literacy and community collaboration go hand in hand.
“A stronger financial future for Muslim Australians and New Zealanders is built through access to quality education, experts and service providers – not just claims of ‘halal’ stamps,” he explained.

The impact so far
Since its first event, MWS has reached more than 1,200 people across communities in Australia and New Zealand, with 6 summits held in Auckland, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and Melbourne. Each city has brought its own energy, but the same underlying purpose: equipping our community with the confidence and knowledge to make informed financial decisions and collaborating to empower everyone.

What’s next
The MWS calendar is only growing. Later this year, summits are heading to:
- Perth: Saturday 1 August, The Duxton
- Melbourne: Saturday 10 October, Marriott Docklands
- Brisbane: Saturday 28 November, Rydges Southbank
