The Australian Association of Pakistani Professionals (AAPP) hosted a warm and vibrant reception dinner on Thursday 10 July 2025  to welcome Mr Wajid Hussain Hashmi, the newly appointed Consul General of Pakistan in Melbourne.

The event brought together a diverse gathering of Pakistani Australian professionals, community leaders, and AAPP members.

It served not only as an official welcome for Mr Hashmi but also as a platform to present key community initiatives supporting the Pakistani diaspora in Australia.

Dr Majid Naeem Gondal, President of AAPP, opened the evening by welcoming Mr Hashmi and emphasising the important role of the Consulate in strengthening community relations.

Dr Yousuf Ahmad, Chair of AAPP, followed with an overview of the organisation’s projects focused on professional development, wellbeing, and integration.

Highlighting innovation in community development, Professor Tayyab introduced a Circular Economy project aimed at promoting sustainability and localised solutions to environmental challenges.

In his remarks, Mr Hashmi expressed his strong commitment to acting as a bridge between the Pakistani community and Australian institutions.

“I look forward to working closely with community members to address concerns and support growth and integration,” Mr Hashmi said.

Mr Rafique Shakir addressed the challenges currently faced by international students and proposed collaborative strategies with the Consulate to improve their support structures.

Guests were also introduced to several prominent community leaders, engaging in productive dialogue around future initiatives.

A traditional Pakistani dinner catered by Handi Kitchen added a warm, cultural flavour to the evening and was thoroughly enjoyed by all attendees.

The reception created valuable networking opportunities and reaffirmed the shared commitment to a stronger, more united Pakistani Australian community.

AAPP looks forward to working closely with Mr Hashmi and the Consulate in advancing shared goals and supporting the continued success of the Pakistani community in Australia.
