Friday 15 March 2019 was a terrible day.

A gunman charged up with hatred killed 51 Muslims in An-Nur and Linwood masajid in Christchurch, New Zealand and left many more with injuries and trauma.

The cruelty did not spare anyone including children and women.  The attack was on peaceful worshippers who were in a pure state to worship Allah to be close to him.  They were with clean hearts, full of love and compassion towards one another.

But the killer didn’t have mercy towards his fellow humans who did not commit any crime, nor did they hurt anyone.

New Zealand, as a country was shocked and came running towards their fellow citizens with compassion.  The Muslim world came together in compassion, with help, with support and with Dua for their fellow victim Muslims.

That dark day was an action of terrible hate but the reaction from all was opposite, and that was love, peace, and compassion.  That is how eventually the love and peace wins.

On Friday 15 March 2024 lots of positive activities took place to commemorate the tragic day.

Activities included distribution of 100 cakes to 100 neighbouring houses by Farid Ahmed and his team, special Dua in two Masajid during Jummah, and a special memorial event in An-Nur Masjid at 6pm that ended with Iftar.

The event was sponsored by Federation of Islamic Association of New Zealand (FIANZ) in which numerous dignitaries were present including New Zealand Prime Minister, Honorable Christopher Luxon, and the Opposition leader, Honorable Chris Hipkins.

The event was filled with many Muslims and non-Muslims to pay respect to the Shuhada, to peace loving Muslims and to compassionate New Zealanders.

There were lots of reflections through valuable speeches and meaningful conversations.

It was a fasting day and that added the spiritual healing and the additional joy with breaking fast together by Muslims and Non-Muslims in harmony.
