Israel, with its racist, apartheid and colonial ideology, intoxicated by its brutal military power backed by the US with unlimited supplies of armaments and absolute diplomatic support, and with its global lobbying network of Zionist rich and the powerful, is getting away with its brutal decimation of Palestinians in Gaza and oppression in the West Bank. It seems that there is no one to challenge it.
The Western countries, with their double standards, keep on repeating their mantra of ‘Israel has the right to defend itself’ while it continues the massacre of tens of thousands of civilians in Gaza under the gaze of the international community.
The UN can only pass resolutions, if not vetoed by the US with no binding power, that is completely ignored by the rogue state, while other international bodies only condemn Israel without any effect on Israel’s genocidal policies and actions against the Palestinians.
The Muslim countries and its toothless assembly of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) are mere spectators with no conscience and strategy to provide protection for the disempowered Palestinian women and children.
While Iran, Hezbollah and the Houthis have provided verbal support and some huffing and puffing, they are afraid to get involved, lest Israel, with US backing, turns their part of the land into Gaza look alike as well.
Moreover, the nuclear threat of Israel looms large over not only Iran, Yemen and Lebanon but also all of Israel’s neighbours and anyone in the Middle East that challenges Israel. Hence, Israel gets away with ‘murder’ each and every time and is again to it now.
So the reality is that if someone indeed manages to challenge Israel, it will result in a catastrophic backlash against the challenger and an absolute threat to world peace with global repercussions for all countries.
In its unprecedented brutal onslaught in Gaza, Israel has brought total misery to its 2.3 million residents who have already been suffering for decades under siege and are now undergoing genocide and ethnic cleansing from their ancestral lands once again after 1948 when they were made refugees with the creation of the state of Israel.
Here is the three months and counting statistics of the brutal asymmetrical ‘war’ between an all powerful Israel and a disempowered Palestinian population.
Gaza’s Ministry of Health says that at least 22,835 Palestinians have been killed to date, with another 58,416 reportedly injured, with an estimated 70% being women and children. 7,000 more are reportedly missing and most are likely dead.
Israel’s final count for Hamas’s 7 October attack is 1,139: 685 Israeli civilians, 373 members of the security forces, and 71 foreigners. Deaths in Israel since then bring the total to about 1,200. 36 of the victims were children. The Israeli military says that 174 soldiers have been killed in Gaza, and 1,023 injured so far.
The 22,835 dead represent about one in a hundred of Gaza’s total population. They have been killed at a rate of just under 250 a day. It is not known exactly how many of those killed were combatants, but Israel’s own ratio would suggest that on average, more than 160 civilians have died each day. This is unprecedented in any recent conflict.
UN Palestinian relief agency, UNRWA, estimated that 1.9 million people had been internally displaced by the war in Gaza, nearly 85% of the population. Many have been forced to move multiple times as the focus of the IDF campaign shifts.
About 1.4 million people are sheltering in UNRWA facilities, with most of the rest staying with friends, family, or strangers, or sleeping rough. About a million people, half of Gaza’s population, are now living in and around the southern border settlement of Rafah.
Gaza, cited by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), estimates that about 65,000 residential units have been destroyed or rendered uninhabitable. Another 290,000 have been damaged. That means that about half a million people have no home to return to.
Humanitarian aid is meanwhile far harder to distribute because of the damage caused by Israel’s bombardment and 142 UNRWA workers have been killed, while 128 of the organisation’s buildings have been damaged.
The World Food Program (WFP) says that about one in four households are already at risk of starvation, and the entire population is facing food shortages that could lead to malnutrition.
Is anyone ready to reflect on these staggering statistics of Human suffering and ready to take some action against the rogue state?
