Brothers in Need, a not-for-profit organisation that provides food to those in need, started in Sydney, operating out of a small space, with their now-famous van delivering food to the homeless community in Sydney CBD. This service, the Homeless Outreach Program, is still going strong after more than 8 years.
“We then expanded to Brisbane, and, in February 2023, we crossed the border and launched our Melbourne branch. Brothers in Need is expanding – not only in space but in the capacity of hearts which it heals, mouths it feeds and smiles it delivers.” says Dahlia, an employee.
The Brothers in Need Homeless Outreach Program now operates in Melbourne.
“Caught up in the day-to-day operations, the friendly staff and volunteers could almost – almost, but not really – be forgiven for forgetting the privilege of being able to directly help others. Until you tell someone who has never heard of Brothers in Need and they remark on the goodness of what you’re doing. And it hits you all over again how you’re touching lives, day in and day out. What a blessing…not only do we operate in Sydney and Brisbane, but we’re running the Homeless Outreach Program in Melbourne now too! Near Queen Victoria Markets – they’re a famous landmark, so should be easy enough for someone in need of food that night to find”, she continues, “and I can’t wait for our Mobile Food Pantry to be operational – it means that we can travel to regions we haven’t reached beforehand. It gives us the capacity to expand our reach, keep acting as a family for Australia’s forgotten, and continue to live our vision of transforming Australian communities one life at a time.”
