After a seven month state-wide search spanning over 120,000 nominations Abla Tohamy Kadous has won the 2019 Senior Volunteer of the Year for NSW.
The award was made earlier in December at a ceremony with more than 300 community businesses and political leaders in attendance.
This is a significant achievement as there were 20 outstanding nominees from the whole of NSW. Abla Tohamy Kadous continues to be an outstanding advocate and role model for Muslim women from all nationalities and the award is recognition of her 35 years of volunteering.
Today, she is still President of the Islamic Women’s Welfare Association (IWWA) which she established 20 years ago.
Abla oversees the running of weekly women’s lessons in various languages, school readiness programs, preschool, playgroup and three community language schools for children.
IWWA also provides community services through their food programme and social events for the members of IWWA.
